“Migration Memory and Our Hong Kong” encourages the sharing of migration stories to enrich the community’s collective memory. A series of lectures, interactive workshops, and creative exercises took place in the winter of 2012 and spring of 2013 to share memorable writings of migration, travel, nostalgia, adjustment, integration, and (be)longing with the students and members of community centres in the Kowloon and the New Territories (Taipo and Tung Chung). A creative web resource has come out of these activities. Community service organizers, students, and families with migration experiences are creative writers who share their memories, stories, and images on this website.

• Create a public space for the active inclusion, interactive sharing, and celebration of post-migration experiences to enrich the long-term building of Hong Kong’s cultural memory.
• Use a web resource to sustain an engaging process in the creative making, writing, and exhibition of diverse migrant narratives.
• Raise awareness of Hong Kong as a host city to diverse migrants of different generations.

“Migration Memory and Creative Digital Narratives” is a Hong Kong University Knowledge Exchange Impact Project ( 2012-2013). It draws on the humanities courses on cultural memory, film and identity taught by Dr. Esther Yau at the University of Hong Kong University. Participants of the projects learn about migration narratives and ways to express their experiences of travel, home, drift, and belonging. They are encouraged to tell stories of their own or those of their family members or peers. For each person, the passage from another place to Hong Kong is filled with expectations, experiences, emotions, and new experiences that make a rich migration memory of this city. We encourage all who are interested to share their stories on this web site, to enrich the city’s migration memory.
